Sam wasn't sure whether it was the time in the army, the years held by HYDRA, a natural facet of Barnes's personality, or some combination of it all, but whatever the case, the guy had a really cavalier approach to what was considered the proper amount of clothing to wear around a coworker-slash-friend-slash-maybe-something-more. Barnes stripped off his wet t-shirt without hesitation, dropping it to the floor before running his hands through his hair to shake out the excess water. The muscles in his shoulders flexed at the movement, and Sam let his gaze linger briefly on Barnes's back before looking away.

His own clothes were soaked through too, already too cold for comfort, so he decided to say fuck it and started undressing as well. The cool air hitting his damp skin made him shiver, and he angled away from Barnes, rubbing his hands over his arms to try and warm up. No doubt Barnes would make fun of him for being cold, maybe take a jab at how no amount of time in New York or D.C. could take being Louisiana-raised out of him.

But no jokes seemed forthcoming, and after a moment Sam turned to look at him only to find Barnes staring openly back at him. He was still shirtless, a dry shirt hanging uselessly from his fingertips, watching Sam without a speck of shame. Sam might have been embarrassed about the open appreciation he could see on Barnes's face if he wasn't already feeling incredibly smug about it.

"Put your damn shirt on already," Sam grumbled.

Barnes grinned at him, effortlessly charming. Bastard. "What, you don't wanna look?"

Sam bent down to pick up his wet shirt, balled it up, and threw it at him. Barnes dodged it easily, but it made Sam feel better anyway.
